Lust List

07 September 2013

Some of my favorites that are waiting on my "to purchase" list...

-ONE-
I think I need this coat. With the chilly weather around the corner, I've been searching for a longer dress coat, opposed to a short cut pea coat. OH, and J. Crew is offering 30% off right now as well. All the more reason to have it!

-TWO-
I've been drooling over these cropped workout pants for awhile now.

-THREE-
I know I've blogged about these before, but they really are the best rain boot you can find. I'll probably end up buying mine closer to the spring time though when I'll get the most use out of them.

-FOUR-
I am in desperate need of a backpack for my classes. Carrying a tote around the city full of books is painful.
You can also find this exact backpack on Moosejaw where they are offering a $10 coupon if you take their survey. Score!

-FIVE-
I've been on the hunt for a pair of thigh high boots that I like, so when L's sister introduced me to these beauties I was doing cart wheels. She bought a pair for herself, and now I'm thinking I may need to treat myself to a pair as well!

-SIX-
Cap Toe Pointy Flats are the perfect blend of business and casual. Gap has some super cute ones, as does Victoria's Secret. I found a pair that I really, REALLY liked but the material seemed cheap and probably wouldn't last a day from the miles of city walking I've been putting on my shoes.

-SEVEN-
I have been on a serious search rampage trying to find a pair of Tory Burch Metallic flats. I can't find them anywhere on the website, and am going to continue my search on ebay.

-EIGHT-
I'm in the market for a new pair of running shoes, any recommendations?

What's on your lust list!?

The Friday 5!

06 September 2013

It's been a couple weeks since I have linked up for the Friday 5, and I feel as though it's about time I jump back on board!

-ONE-
It's beginning to feel a lot like FALL!
It's September 6th, Labor Day is over, and the cool weather is rolling it's way on in.
So long to the unbelievably hot days (not like we have any of those here in NE), and say hello to the beginning of cool weather that will stick around until March/April!
I've been finding myself wrapped up in jeans and jackets as I make my way around the city this week.
I've been trying to find ways to decorate the apartment up for the fall, and yesterday I strung my "Happy Fall" Bunting Flag Banner up to bring in the season!

-TWO-
I don't think I ever shared these pictures on here, but two weeks ago L and I headed up to Maine to visit my Dad and brother for the weekend. From there we headed up to North Conway, NH where we rented a canoe and paddled down the beautiful Saco River back into Maine.
The river was absolutely beautiful and clean, and there were several sandbars where people had set up camp, played games, and sat in their tubes and boozed all day.

We also found the best rope swing!

-THREE-
I am a hardcore supporter of TJ Maxx. I have a serious obsession with that store and cannot keep myself out of there! I feel like a kid in a candy store, especially now that I live within 10 minutes walking distance of a huge one! Last night when I was picking my way through, I came across the cutest craft paper!! There were so many cute options, however I settled on just two patterns. If I had it my way, I would have been walking out of there with one of each!

-FOUR-
I think I am going to create something along this line for a to-do list.
I am constantly making myself lists, and am constantly losing them!

I would use the same template idea, however I think I am going to frame mine and put it in my room. When I complete a goal, I can rip the sticky off and replace it with a new one!
Or, maybe I won't even use the sticky notes and maybe use the same template but make it dry erase. So many options! I will keep you posted!

-FIVE-
Here's another fun fall project that I may try to do myself! I love the candy corn colors and fun frame!

Enjoy the weekend!!

DIY "Happy Fall" Bunting Flag Banner

05 September 2013

I recently updated my beloved brick wall with a newer, more updated, and season appealing bunting flag banner than I wanted to share with everyone!

My other most recent "Boston Love" banner can be found here.

Because here in New England, fall weather starts immediately after Labor Day, I only found it appropriate to start decorating the apartment for fall! I bought a candle named Asian Ginger and Apple/Vanilla Brûlée/Hinoki Bonsai and it has completely set the mood for the season.
I pulled my "Boston Banner" down from the living room, and hung up my most recent project... my "Happy Fall" bunting banner!

Like my other bunting banners, it was a ton of fun and super easy to make!

First.
I printed the templates for all the letters here, and then cut them all out.

Second.
I mounted each of the flags on recycled grocery bags using double sided tape.
You can use construction paper as well, however I had a bunch of whole foods bags that were getting ready to be thrown out, and could do the job just as well, if not better.
This helps to make the banner stronger.
Once it was mounted, I cut out a slightly larger flag.

Third.
I used the same hemp braid that I used for my other banners, however if this is your first bunting banner  and would like to hang it from braided hemp, be sure to take yards and yards of hemp and braid it all together.
This WILL cramp and kill your fingers.

Fourth.
I hung the hemp up, and attached the flags using mini wooden clothespins which I found at Walmart.

The reason that I decided to just attach the flags using the clothespins opposed to just punching holes and stringing hemp through is because I would like to use the flags and hemp for other themed banners, and this method made the whole switching them out process much easier!

Check out my other bunting flag banners here!

I'm off for a lovely fall walk with a pumpkin spice latte in hand to downtown crossing with L.
Happy Bunting!

What I'm Thinking Wednesday

04 September 2013

Excuse me for my terrible blogging absence for the month of August. It has been so jam packed full with moving and new adjustments that I have completely dropped the ball. I have so many drafts sitting in my dashboard that are waiting for pictures so that I can post them. My apologies. Go ahead, let me hear it... (;

Here are a few random updates.

(If you ever move to the city, make sure you live in the heart of the city. It is completely worth every last penny of your ridiculously high rent. The experiences and close proximity to everything make it well worth your while!)

CLASS.
Today, I started classes at Suffolk. My earliest class is at 10 (thank goodness), however it's Organic Chemistry. I am absolutely petrified. I have been told by everyone I know that it is going to be the hardest class that I take in my undergraduate biology career (run Kaylie, run!). Even my professor, whom I can barely understand basically told us we should all be scared.
My other class, an Organismal Biology class, is going to be awesome, I can tell! My professor is so cool and relaxed. She also received great ratings on rate my professor which completely lifts my spirits!
All my books have been painfully purchased leaving a $500+ hole in my heart. However, it's nothing compared to my roommate who set a new record of $1300 in books for one semester. Does that not make you sick to your stomach!?

PROJECTS.
I have a ton of projects that I am currently working on that I cannot wait to share with everyone! They range from more bunting flag banners, a picture display frame, to wine bottle decorations. I seriously need a craft room here (or at least a table). I am having the most difficult of time trying to organize all my crafting into a tiny 8x9 bedroom.

TRASH.
Here in Boston, we put all our trash out on the side of the curb 3 times a week, and the trash trucks come around and pick up the loads of trash in the mornings. Lately, there has been some seriously gold trash with everyone moving out when their August lease is up. I mean, people are throwing away perfectly fine couches, chairs, tables, beds, AC units, TVs, etc... just because they don't want to move it (and I don't blame them one bit). There are so many things that I want to snatch up and turn into beautiful project masterpieces, however I always seem to be on my way to somewhere important and don't have the chance to. Isn't that lovely...? I'm hoping to find some fun pieces that I can repurpose and use to decorate the apartment!

WORK.
I found a job that is located right across from the Garden, and will be extremely hip, hop, and happening once the Bruins and Celtics seasons start up! I'm happy to work, and I love having an income... however, I really would like to just not work. In a perfect world, I would take out loans to pay for my sky high cost of living, I would have a rocking internship at the aquarium, go to classes, and maybe work once or twice a week for "fun money". I would go ice skating in the Commons every chance I could get, join a yoga class, exercise a whole lot more, and be able to afford the food from Whole Foods Store. I would attend every possible event at the Garden and would be a crazy Bruins Fan. L and I would walk the harbor every night, and I would adopt a dog, and walk it in the Commons, with a cup of pumpkin spice latte in the mornings. If only. Until that magical work free life comes my way, I will keep this job and enjoy the Boston love that will come from all the Bruins and Celtics happy fans that come my way at my new job! I'm excited to see how it goes, and thankful to have a job!

APARTMENT.
As promised, I will post an apartment "tour" (if that's what you want to call it... it's literally the size of a shoebox) when I get my bed situation all situated. All I have left to do is move my bed in, and decorate it with fun bedding and pillows, and possibly find an area rug for our living room. Until then, everyone will just have to wait in suspense! Just kidding, it's really not that exciting. I'm excited to share though!!

EXERCISE.
Uhm, this is embarrassing. I like to exercise, my own way, on my own terms. I've always loved running, and decided that TODAY would be the day that I begin exercising again for the first time since June. The gym that I'll be using is located by Beacon Hill (super close to where L lives), which is about a 10 to 15 minute walk from where I live. SO, I muster up enough energy to walk over to L's apartment and I'm already completely out of breath and in pain. Once I met up with him, we both walked to the gym together and I began a very depressing workout. Since it's been months since the last time I even thought about exercising, I thought, "I'll take it easy on the elliptical". The entire 30 minute workout was just terrible. I felt like complete crap the ENTIRE time, and felt as though the Oreos and milk I had had just prior to my workout were going to end up all over the floor. Not to mention, the guy next to me was kicking the treadmill's ass into the next century running 4 to 5 minute miles (I'm assuming). However, when I slowly crawled off the machine and out of the building, I did feel good about completing a workout. I think tomorrow morning I'm going to try a 3 mile loop around the North End. That way the traffic is not too busy, and I can enjoy running on the harbor, around the wharfs, and maybe I'll detour to the Old North Church and then Faneuil Hall for some shopping ;)

That's all I have for you guys tonight, however I am certainly making an effort to show some more blog love this month, that is if O Chem doesn't take over my life!

Happy Hump Day!
