LIFE AS YOU LIVE IT

Everybody Loves Fall

10 November 2013

It is taking every ounce of energy to focus all my blogging energy towards fall and Thanksgiving, opposed to the "most wonderful time of the year"!!

I'm here to recap you on some glorious Halloween FALL TIME FUN!
I'll start you with a pumpkin story.
I bought these two (rather large) pumpkins at Haymarket (a farmers market down the street), around the beginning of October. I was walking on my way home from Faneuil Hall, and thought "hey, we need some fall fun for the apartment, $3 for a pumpkin is a good deal"! So when I went to pay for it, he told me he would give me 2 for $5, an even better deal! Getting back to the North End with these two suckers was a pain in the ass workout that I NEVER ever want to relive. Eventually, after much sweat and two nice guys that helped me when I got to my street, I put them out on the fire escape and they rotted the next day. EXCELLENT! We left them out there for a couple more weeks because they stunk, were really squishy.. and we really, REALLY did not want to touch them. Eventually, L came and saved the day and helped bag them up for us.
After that rotten experience, I went to Kennebunk and made my brother spend some quality pumpkin carving time with me!

He cheats...

But I was seriously LOVING how these turned out!

In the apartment in Boston, we have this random shelf that I wasn't sure what to do with?
It quickly turned into our "seasonal shelf" and is going to be decked out for every holiday!

It just finished up being decorated for Halloween, and is making the transition into Thanksgiving!
I'll post updated pictures when it's finished! (:

BY THE WAY, I printed that Halloween printable from somewhere online... and they spelled "Lantern" wrong --fail

Chocolate Fudge

09 November 2013

Can I share with you some of the most delicious, richest, to die for fudge ever!?

We scouted this recipe out from an island up by Michigan that is KNOWN for its fudge!

 You will need:

2 packages of CHOCOLATE CHIPS
1/4 cup BUTTER, cut into pieces
1/2 teaspoon SALT
1/2 teaspoon VANILLA EXTRACT
2 cups SUGAR
1 cup EVAPORATED MILK
12 large MARSHMALLOWS, cut into halves

...and voila! Homemade fudge!!
The fudge tastes 50x better if you let it sit, chill, and form in the fridge!

Pumpkin Dip

07 November 2013

How is the beautiful fall weather treating everyone? Climates have been fluctuating so much around here! Yesterday, it was so gorgeous, not too windy with a comfortable cool... and today it's raining!?
I JUST WANT SOME SNOW!

I am doing everything in my power not to start decorating for Christmas, however to my roommate's dismay, I have broken out the Christmas tunes! They're so much fun!

This year we would LOVE to get a real tree up to our apartment, however.. FAT CHANCE... we live on the top floor, with a tiny stair well in the middle of the Boston. We are definitely going to try though!

In the spirit of fall, I've whipped up a batch of some Pumpkin Dip. I saw this recipe on one of my favorite blogs, and just had to give it a whirl!

This dip only calls for 5 simple ingredients and is wicked easy to prepare!

For this dip you will need:

15 ounce CAN OF PUMPKIN
5 ounce box of INSTANT VANILLA PUDDING
16 ounce container of COOL WHIP
1/2 Tablespoon of PUMPKIN PIE SPICE
1/2 Tablespoon of CINNAMON

First, mix pumpkin, dry pudding mix, cool whip, and pumpkin pie spice together (by hand) in a very large bowl.

Next, let chill for several hours.

Finally, sprinkle the dip with cinnamon and serve with graham crackers, vanilla wafers, or apple slices!

Thanks to Christina over at Carolina Charm, I'm eating my weight in Pumpkin Dip! Thanks for sharing this delicious recipe!

ENJOY!!

RAH RAH BOSTON!

06 November 2013

So I'm almost a week late in my celebratory BOSTON WON THE WORLD SERIES post, but if you have any interest in having a small photo recap of how proud this city is, keep reading!

"Worst to First"
has been the quote around here lately.

This city has once again gone to prove how strong and great everyone in it really is!

As predicted, when the Sox took the win, shit hit the roof around here! Restaurants with patio furniture had to have it put away or bolted to the ground, cars were flipped, and glassware was thrown into the air at restaurants resulting in a rain of glass and mess.

Prior to the win, the city had dressed up most of it's statues...

...because, apparently Paul Revere was a huge Sox fan...

and of course I had to make a bunting banner for the season!

Find the template here!

For the parade, they had the cued the Ducks, who drove from Fenway to the Charles River to celebrate with all of Boston and its fans!

Security was crazy, and they had every possible type of police transpo available. Horses, motorcycles, cruisers, boats, buses, bicycles, oh my! You name it, they were there! They had several buses that were just loaded with cops waiting on standby, just as they had for the word series games!

The streets were just crowded and impossible, however we resorted to staking out at the Esplanade so that we could watch them when they hit the Charles. It was not nearly as busy as the streets, and had quick access back to the North End! You should have seen the lines for the T after the parade!

These pictures look at though I'm creeping from a bush.

David Ortiz raising a beer to me, I wish think?! (:

This Black Duck is the same duck I took for a tour the other day!

Basically, the city has been on champion high for the past week, and it feels so good. Great Job guys!!

Feels GREAT living in a city of champions!!!

"Boston Red Sox" Bunting Flag Banner

27 October 2013

Have you guys been keeping up with the Red Sox & Cards lately?

World Series!!

These games have been pretty crazy so far!!

As a resident of Boston, I'm rooting for the Sox and would love to see them win the world series, however... let the best team win! (whether it be the Sox or Cards)

In the spirit of the intense season, a bunting banner was made and hung with joy!!

All you fans out there can download the template here from Google Docs!

Enjoy the rest of the game season!!

Lust List

07 September 2013

Some of my favorites that are waiting on my "to purchase" list...

-ONE-
I think I need this coat. With the chilly weather around the corner, I've been searching for a longer dress coat, opposed to a short cut pea coat. OH, and J. Crew is offering 30% off right now as well. All the more reason to have it!

-TWO-
I've been drooling over these cropped workout pants for awhile now.

-THREE-
I know I've blogged about these before, but they really are the best rain boot you can find. I'll probably end up buying mine closer to the spring time though when I'll get the most use out of them.

-FOUR-
I am in desperate need of a backpack for my classes. Carrying a tote around the city full of books is painful.
You can also find this exact backpack on Moosejaw where they are offering a $10 coupon if you take their survey. Score!

-FIVE-
I've been on the hunt for a pair of thigh high boots that I like, so when L's sister introduced me to these beauties I was doing cart wheels. She bought a pair for herself, and now I'm thinking I may need to treat myself to a pair as well!

-SIX-
Cap Toe Pointy Flats are the perfect blend of business and casual. Gap has some super cute ones, as does Victoria's Secret. I found a pair that I really, REALLY liked but the material seemed cheap and probably wouldn't last a day from the miles of city walking I've been putting on my shoes.

-SEVEN-
I have been on a serious search rampage trying to find a pair of Tory Burch Metallic flats. I can't find them anywhere on the website, and am going to continue my search on ebay.

-EIGHT-
I'm in the market for a new pair of running shoes, any recommendations?

What's on your lust list!?

The Friday 5!

06 September 2013

It's been a couple weeks since I have linked up for the Friday 5, and I feel as though it's about time I jump back on board!

-ONE-
It's beginning to feel a lot like FALL!
It's September 6th, Labor Day is over, and the cool weather is rolling it's way on in.
So long to the unbelievably hot days (not like we have any of those here in NE), and say hello to the beginning of cool weather that will stick around until March/April!
I've been finding myself wrapped up in jeans and jackets as I make my way around the city this week.
I've been trying to find ways to decorate the apartment up for the fall, and yesterday I strung my "Happy Fall" Bunting Flag Banner up to bring in the season!

-TWO-
I don't think I ever shared these pictures on here, but two weeks ago L and I headed up to Maine to visit my Dad and brother for the weekend. From there we headed up to North Conway, NH where we rented a canoe and paddled down the beautiful Saco River back into Maine.
The river was absolutely beautiful and clean, and there were several sandbars where people had set up camp, played games, and sat in their tubes and boozed all day.

We also found the best rope swing!

-THREE-
I am a hardcore supporter of TJ Maxx. I have a serious obsession with that store and cannot keep myself out of there! I feel like a kid in a candy store, especially now that I live within 10 minutes walking distance of a huge one! Last night when I was picking my way through, I came across the cutest craft paper!! There were so many cute options, however I settled on just two patterns. If I had it my way, I would have been walking out of there with one of each!

-FOUR-
I think I am going to create something along this line for a to-do list.
I am constantly making myself lists, and am constantly losing them!

I would use the same template idea, however I think I am going to frame mine and put it in my room. When I complete a goal, I can rip the sticky off and replace it with a new one!
Or, maybe I won't even use the sticky notes and maybe use the same template but make it dry erase. So many options! I will keep you posted!

-FIVE-
Here's another fun fall project that I may try to do myself! I love the candy corn colors and fun frame!

Enjoy the weekend!!
