LIFE AS YOU LIVE IT: Life

Life

04 May 2015

Boston had a beautiful day today, I'm talking in the 80's! I went into the office for a couple hours and then decided my time would be better spent working from our roof deck. I'm just so much more productive when I have that sweet sunshine on my skin, and a go-gurt in my hand. Some kind soul that lives in our building set a table up on the deck, so you can be sure I will be working from there more often, as well as eating dinner, playing cards, and everything else I can possibly do. I just decided I'm going up there and reading my magazine as soon as I'm done writing this post.

These printed boardwalk shorts are my new jam, so comfy! I got mine in ripe kiwi!

Having been on the hunt for a new hair salon since I moved to Boston over a year and a half ago, I feel as though I might have just found the perfect fit for me. I was first drawn to Bangs of Boston by their very modern and chic storefront located on Salem Stret, and the dozens of positive yelp and personal reviews that I had received from fellow customers and friends. I finally pulled the trigger when I saw that they were offering an amazing Groupon deal that I couldn't pass up. Their salon was very light, bright and clean, and I had an amazing experience with my stylist, Danielle, who was extremely helpful and explained everything she was doing and every product that she used. I left feeling awesome, and very pleased with the results!

My Tory Burch Thora Sandals arrived this weekend, and I finally had the excuse to wear them on this beautiful 70 degree Boston day! I ran all over the city and had no problems. So far, so good. I'm thinking about going for these ones next!

Please take this blurry iPhone photo to document my winnings from the Kentucky Derby on Saturday. We all put in $10 for a horse, randomly pulled from a cup, and I lucked out when I grabbed American Pharoah! $180 richer!

Guys, I'm on the struggle bus when it comes to my face lately. I am breaking out like a teenager and I don't know why or what to do! I don't ever wear any makeup on my face besides eyeliner/shadow, however I'm not very good about properly washing my face twice a day. I just bought a bottle of Cera Ve so I'm going to try extra hard to thoroughly wash it in the mornings and evenings. I'm also considering buying a clarisonic. Thoughts?

Happy Monday, friends!

  1. i need to get my hair did as well. yours looks amazing!!!

as for your skin - i wouldn't recommend a clarisonic if you have sensitive skin; it might be too abrasive and result in more blemishes.

as for breakouts - it's so important to wash your face before you go to bed to get rid of all the stuff that tends to sit on your skin from the day. as for morning washes, you don't need to unless your skin is very oily. i have never washed my face in the morning with anything other than splashing it with water.

sudden breakouts could be hormonal or because of what you ate. not sure how old you are but around the ages of 27-35, women break out like high schoolers again and it's all due to hormones....starting around that age, we start to see a hormonal shift and that causes acne. are your breakouts around the lower part of your face ie. your chin area and maybe on your back? that's an indication of the hormonal shift i was talking about.

i would check to see if anything has changed in your diet that no longer agrees with you (that sudden change could happen too) and start using Cerave every night for a week to see if that helps.

    good luck!

    1. Thanks! I'm constantly eating foods I shouldn't be so I'm sure that's part of the problem as well!

  2. Your hair looks gorgeous! I'm counting down until an appointment that I have this Thursday. I have a Clarisonic Mia and LOVE IT. I hate breakouts. Stress? Diet? Hormones? Could be any of those things! Although, your skin looks great in these pictures so maybe it just seems worse to you!
    Congrats on the Derby winnings!

  7. I pulled American Pharaoh from a cup too ... but I only won $40.. .I'll take it though :)

My face used to be a mess before I gave up meat. Ever since I went vegetarian 4 years ago, my face has been clear & break out free.... I know that's extreme but maybe even if you cut back on meat some?

  15. Woohoo for a Derby win!! And CeraVe is awesome - I used that stuff last winter when I was having REALLY dry skin problems... maybe the foaming wash would be better if you're breaking out? And I always say yes to a Clarisonic! It changed my skin!

  17. Clarisonics are totally worth it! I too struggle with acne & im finally seeing a derm about it this month. But it's amazing how much makeup is left on the clarisonic after you wash your face! I wipe off a good amount of makeup before I use it because otherwise I kinda feel like it's just rubbing dirty makeup all over my face. Also, love your TB sandals! She's the best!

  18. where are you breaking out? Is it hormones or stress? any new meds or vitamins or supplements? try the cera ve first and see how that does before splurging on the clarisonic :)

  19. Boston has my heart! I lived and worked there for a few years, and I miss it a lot! In terms of skincare, I found that cutting pretty much all products and going CRAZY simple made things a lot better! I only wash with dove soap or dr. bronner's magic soap - both get rid of all the impurities. I have combination skin though, so that's worth noting :)

  20. I am in love with my Clarisonic! It has made a huge difference with my break outs when I use it regularly. Worth every penny! I'm so jealous that you can work outside! I wish I could do that more often! Looks like a gorgeous day!
